Manchester United were understood to be one among several European elites interested in signing Erling Haaland when he had just started making noise during his time at RB Salzburg.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even reportedly held personal talks with Haaland in an attempt to convince him to move to Old Trafford.
It appeared then that the Norwegian striker was destined to join Man United due to his connection with Solskjaer, with the duo having worked together at Eliteserien side Molde.
However, the 20-year old turned down an opportunity to reunite with his compatriot and instead opted for a move to Borussia Dortmund.
The BVB forward’s decision has paid off as he has emerged not only as one of the most sought-after players but also as one of the deadliest attackers in all of Europe.
“First of all I’m very happy in the Bundesliga, but you never know what will happen in the future,” he replied when asked about the possibility of him joining the Premier League in the future on Sky Sports.
Norway head coach Lars Lagerback recently drew comparisons between Haaland and Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi while backing him to reach the highest levels of the game.
“I appreciate these words. I want to be the best I can and work hard every day,” he added on his manager’s praise.
“I try to enjoy my life as much as possible and you saw tonight that I enjoyed the game. That’s why I play football.”
