The summer of 2018 saw Cristiano Ronaldo leave for Juventus. It was a big loss but an even bigger heartbreak was Zinedine Zidane announcing his departure as well.
While the likes of Gareth Bale must have been pleased, the same could not be said about their fortunes.
Both Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari failed to justify their appointments. Real Madrid failed to live up to the hype, losing to Ajax in the Champions League. In La Liga, Atletico Madrid would finish runner’s-up to consign them to third place.
Zidane returned to steady the rocking boat. And in his first complete season has delivered La Liga honors.
Luka Modric was full of praise for the Frenchman, appreciating his man management style.
The Croatian believes the Zidane improves everyone in the squad and keeps them up-to-date with his plans. According to Modric, this is the reason why the unity in the dressing room has increased.
“Zidane once again proved to be a great person,” Modric told Sportske Novosti [via Marca].
“He is reassuring and he is very correct in his approach to the player.
“There are always those who do not play as much as they would like, they are not happy and that makes sense.
“But the coach’s approach has helped everyone feel part of the team and accept their situation.
“In this dressing room, everyone is a good guy, there is no one who creates problems for their own reasons, there are no bad apples.”
