“We’ve been too weak and vulnerable” – Messi on Barca’s league struggle

FC Barcelona suffered their sixth La Liga defeat of the season as they were humbled by 10-man Osasuna 2-1 at Camp Nou last night.

Jose Arnaiz had put his side on the front foot at the 15-minute mark. It took until after the hour mark for the home side to find the equalizer as Lionel Messi, with an exquisite free-kick, scored his 23rd league goal of the season.

Barca thought they could take a point away from the match but Roberto Torres had other ideas. Deep into stoppage time, Torres latched onto a clever ball to snatch all three points for Osasuna.

Salt was rubbed into the wounds of Quique Setien’s men upon learning that elsewhere, Real Madrid had clinched the 2019/20 La Liga title by beating Villarreal 2-1.

Lionel Messi could not contain his disappointment as he gave an honest assessment of his side after the match.

Messi told Movistar+ : “I’m telling you that if we continue in this manner, we will not advance in the Champions League as we weren’t good enough to retain the LaLiga title.

“We’re going to need to change plenty if we want to deliver and we also need to take a long hard look at ourselves.

“We’ve been too weak and vulnerable. We dropped too many points along the way and that sums up our season.”
