Manchester City suffered their third consecutive away defeat in the Premier League as they finished second-best in the match against Southampton on Sunday night.
Catching Ederson off his line, Che Adams scored his first-ever Premier League goal and the only goal of the match at the 16-minute mark to help the hosts jump to 13th place in the league table.
Defensive issues, arising from players’ injuries and inconsistencies, have been a serious concern for Man City throughout the season.
Pep Guardiola, however, speaking in his post-match press conference, insists Ederson is not be blamed for the loss while choosing to only focus on positives from last night’s match.
“The mistake was a mistake but it’s part of the game. We didn’t lose because of this reason,” he said, as per the official club website.
“Look at the amount of chances we had. It’s football. We tried to score goals. In general, mentally, the games we played have been more than good – but it’s not enough to win.
“I am so proud. I like the way we played but it’s not enough. It’s not a complaint of the players. Far from it.”
