The future of Lionel Messi has been brought into question yet again after further disappointment on the field.
There is talk of discontent from the bench to the boardroom at the Camp Nou.
This has led to widespread speculation of talisman Lionel Messi leaving the club when his contract expires in 2021.
However, the club’s former coach Cesar Luis Menotti is adamant that his compatriot Messi is still in his prime and will never leave the Camp Nou.
Speaking to TyC Sports, Menotti believes the player is more important than the club’s president and Bartomeu will go before Messi.
He said: “He is still at his peak.”
“Messi is more representative of Barcelona’s history than Bartomeu. It doesn’t even cross my mind that they won’t fix it.”
“Messi doesn’t think about the contract when he goes on the pitch. He’s still the same on the pitch and in his neighborhood.”
“I don’t think it’s a financial problem, I don’t understand it.”
“It’s evident that Quique Setien has not found his team still.”
“But Messi is still the same and it’s not in vain that he reached 700 career goals.”
“He is still in his peak like I said. It’s true he’s not a kid of 18 anymore, but he’s not 50, either. He has a lot of time in front of him still.”
