Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer‘s future remains to be in doubt as he is yet to agree fresh terms despite nearing the final 12 months of his current contract.
Ever since arriving from Schalke, Neuer has collected 18 silverware during his nine-year spell with the club so far.
Although the 34-year old wants to prolong his stay, he demand for a five-year contract is conflicting with Bayern’s offer, who are willing to hand only a three-year deal.
While the talks remain to be just speculations, club legend Lothar Matthaus believes Neuer’s exit from Allianz Arena is imminent.
“I can understand his desire for security and a long contract very well. But five years is also a long time.”
“He should first extend for three years and if he’s still healthy and performs he’ll get the next contract,” Matthaus told Sky Deutschland.
“I think the signs are pointing to his departure. Probably a little more was expected of him, and the expectations he put on himself were undoubtedly higher.”
“I don’t think that he will still be playing in Munich next season.”
