NewJeans has been nominated for the MTV Video Music Awards 2023 (MTV VMAs) for the first time since their debut.
According to the additional nominations announced on the official website of the prestigious American music awards show, the 2023 MTV VMAs, the group has been nominated for the Group of the Year category. This is the first time NewJeans has been nominated for an award at such a prestigious ceremony in the mainstream pop market, demonstrating the global reach and influence they have achieved in just one year since their debut.
In fact, with their second mini album “Get Up,” NewJeans became the fastest K-pop group in history to reach the top of the Billboard 200 after their debut and having all three of their title tracks enter the Hot 100 simultaneously. The group also made a series of appearances at major overseas festivals such as Lollapalooza Chicago in the U.S. and Summersonic in Japan last month, receiving an overwhelming response from music fans around the world.
NewJeans’s global chart success has continued for the last two months. In the latest official UK chart (dated 1 September), “Super Shy” has been on the chart for eight consecutive weeks, ranking 85th on the single chart “Top 100.” The song entered the chart at No. 59 on 14 July and reached its highest ranking of No. 52 on 28 July, and has been showing a long-running popularity as it rebounded after a brief hiatus.
NewJeans also continues to perform well on Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming platform. “Super Shy” has been charting for eight weeks, reaching #17 on the Spotify Global Top Songs (31 August) and #55 on the Spotify US Top Songs.
